Ranking the Last 10 Masters Winners Sunday Outfits
The 2014 Masters was won by Bubba Watson. This win for the lefty was quite a convincing one but the fit on Sunday was about as basic as it gets. This was right in the middle of peak Oakley, the belt buckle was awful and I would have loved to have seen a black visor with the fit. 2014 wasn’t really ‘peak golf fashion’ sadly, summed up by this look. 4/10
The 2015 Masters saw the coming of Jordan Spieth, sadly he wasn’t bringing any style along with him. Although the look is an improvement on Bubba, that isn’t really saying a lot, it’s 2015 golf fashion in a microcosm. Lets look at the positives, we were leaving the era of the white belt behind, he matched the shirt colour and belt colour which I appreciate and he wore the correct colour hat for the outfit. Sadly those Under Armour shoes still give me nightmares! 6/10
Danny boy! 2016 saw one of the great collapses at The Masters, but we did see an emergence in that final round, that of the white belt. I don’t mind it here so much, although I prefer the way Spieth paired things up the year before. The green shirt was a little presumptuous but it did match the accent colour on one of my favourite pairs of shoes FootJoy have ever done. The DryJoy Casual. 6/10
Sergio, Sergio! Finally he broke his major curse, the outfit however, wasn’t exactly spellbinding. The Adidas Powerband Boost Golf Shoes were a bit favourite of mine at the time. I do like the way the cap matched the accent on the shirt and the introduction of the woven belt I appreciated. Definitely a step up from the previous years. 7/10
The year I like to revisit the least. The 2018 Masters was won by Patrick Reed, and lost by Nike Golf. The shirt Patrick was wearing in the final round is one of the worst Nike ever produced! He did do what he needed to do with that shirt and wear all black around it however, so I must give him props for that. But, it is Patrick. 2/10
2019. The greatest Masters I’ve witnessed. Tiger Woods bringing back the iconic Sunday red (before they added the space between ‘Sun’ and ‘Day’). The mock neck shirt taking me back to those junior golf days wearing black and red and pretending to be him on the putting green. The outfit to me represents ‘playing golf’ and for that, it is one of my favourites! 10/10
Played in November, Dustin Johnson won the 2020 Masters. Wearing a very typical Adidas outfit from the time, DJ always looks clean and well put together. The belt is the only piece of this outfit that I don’t really like, never understood the branded belt buckle on a non-branded belt. Adidas have never done ‘croc’ belts that I am aware of. The Tour360 shoes are looking fresh however. 7.5/10
2021, inspiring a continent, well, with his golf, not his dress sense. Hideki Matsuyama wore, well, quite an awful outfit en route to claiming his green jacket which coincidental, is probably the most fashionable piece of attire he now owns. The shirt doesn’t really go with the trousers, it doesn’t need a white belt, the only saving grace is the yellow accents on the cap, matching the shirt and the accent on the shoes. It is still pretty bad. 2/10
Scottie Scheffler is our 2022 Masters Champion wearing just peak Nike boredom. I just don’t think an outfit gets ‘safer’. If you don’t want anyone to ever comment on what you wear, either positive or negative, dress like Scottie. 5/10
Jon Rahm and Travis Mathew were the 2023 Masters winners. Great to see a brand like Travis Mathew get the exposure on the big stage. The fit however, wasn’t the best. Jon Rahm is always going to struggle to make anything look good. I like the polo shirt colour, I like the black belt with the charcoal trousers, the shoes aren’t great and I just don’t think it works that well all together. 5.5/10
